My Blanken World

My world of boys, textiles and moving.

Scewed perspective March 7, 2017

no parking

I know it’s not Saturday, but something has been on my mind all day.  Sharing usually fixes that right?

One of the last few days of work, I came in at later than usual (5:00 am if you care), so the parking lot already had cars in it.  Because it had been snowing all night, the lines weren’t visible.  People parked the best they could, but inevitably some were parked a little off… or more than a little off.  The whole row was actually tilted the complete wrong way on a one way row.  By the time I got out of work, the snow had melted enough from people driving on it, to show the correct position to park.  I of course, was now the only one parked incorrectly because every one else that was there before me, had left work already.

Someone was nice enough to leave a “clever” note written with the winter grime on my back windshield, along with their less than creative drawing of a penis.  Which, had nothing to do with what they wrote.  I mean, if they had said I parked like one, I would have at least gotten the reference?!  But no, it was a random penis, along with the fact that I don’t park well (paraphrased).

My point.

We don’t always know why people do what they do.  They may actually be doing something because they really are just that screwed up, or uncaring.  Or life’s circumstances may have brought them to that spot, in that way.  Someone else may have caused the position they’re now stuck in.

Most things we can avoid by just being proactive – I could have come out on my lunch break to move my car, but the thought never even crossed my mind while I was doing my job.  I was focused on doing my work well, not on where my car was parked, or if the snow was even melting.

The next time you see someone doing something that seems totally bass ackwards, or even parked strangely for that matter, stop to think before leaving that giant penis.  First, does the penis make sense with what I’m writing?  And second, could they maybe, possibly just have been screwed over by the people before them?

Ok, some people really are just jerks!

I really, really don’t enjoy making jewelry.  As a matter of fact, for all my love of all things that sparkle – short of a few very special pieces, I don’t even like wearing it all that much!  For all of you who do make it – I tip my hat to you; you earn your money!

I have a customer from when we lived at “that house” that had and still has me make necklaces for him to sell.  For some reason, the fact that I sew, means I can also make jewelry and various other crafts?

But I did say yes, so I shouldn’t complain.

He had an idea, showed it to me and I’ve been attempting to make it the way he wants since then.  He’s sold what “we’ve” made so far, but we’re still in the process of perfecting the piece.

And tonight – I finally found the tutorial that put’s all the pieces together!  Can you hear the angels singing!!

Thank you Lorraine Dowdle for your awesome youtube video that I’ve been searching for, for over a year now!  It’s amazing how something so simple can make such a huge difference.

I have ordered the components without the normal hesitation and curmudgeonry that I normally order with and am now looking forward to putting the pieces together.

I can’t post pic’s yet… I just ordered the parts silly!

So tonight I will head to bed, knowing that in a week, I can put the pieces together without the pain and agony usually associated with this project – after all, sore hands are reserved for cutting fabric, knitting and brick work!

Happy 235th Birthday! :D July 4, 2011

The sounds of freedom may be small and easy to dismiss, but take them away and you are left with deafening oppression!

As many are lamenting the booming, bangs, whistles and popping outside their windows this time of year, I relish every one of them…. ok, maybe not EVERY one of them; but with the right attitude, you get what the real meaning of this day is for Americans and America as a whole.  It’s not just another day for the neighbor’s to blow their hands off, spend way to much on something they will literally burn or teenagers to set off firecrackers at all hours, there is an actual meaning behind all of this!

Sit down and listen at the peak tonight, close your eyes and just sit.  The close up booming and whirling, the far of flickers of light and whistles.  The sparks down the street, followed by popping.  235 some years ago, you would have heard all these noises outside your door or down the road.  Just what did it feel like to hear a cannon ball wiz through your camp?  What did it smell like behind the cannon?  What did a bullet, out of an even then antiquated musket, sound like whistling past your head?

– We’ll be joining one of our new neighbor’s for a pig roast to celebrate –

The idea of a feast in celebration is nothing new; pagans celebrated the earth and what it did for them.  Religions have celebrations to thank their gods.  Countries have days set aside to celebrate great victories.  Americans enjoy a celebration on July 4th to celebrate their freedom from tyranny, injustice and oppression.  What ever condition our country may be in at this moment in time, 325 years later, we are still a proud, strong, blessed people.  We need to remember what those men (and women) went through so many years ago to give us the opportunities we have today (and are still doing!).  And if listening to loud noises for a week or two is what brings that back to us, then bring it on!

Now go out and light a sparkler!
